Abstract
Based on personal experiences and learning I will cover the basics of burndown and burnup charts, purpose and differences, how to use them for visualizing status and progress and how to use them for decision making. The tutorial participants will get an opportunity to identify ideas on how to use burnup or burndown charts in their specific environment.

Process/Mechanics
The tutorial will focus on interaction with the participants. Based on questions and challenges the participants will be invited to explore the benefits of burnup and burndown charts.
- Intro - 10 minutes
- The basics of burn (up/down) charts - 10 minutes
- A practical example - 15 minutes
- Create your own burn (up/down) chart - practical exercise -20 minutes
- Exercise debrief and discussion - 20 minutes
- Summary and take away points - 15 minutes
Bio
Arne Ã…hlander is a Senior Consultant using Agile and Lean methodologies to improve product development and management for several larger software organizations.
Arne has 15 years of experience from the software industry, to a great part in the area of product management where he have held several senior positions. Arne has managed Scrum projects, helped customers start Scrum initatives, and was appointed Certified Scrum Trainer in November, 2008. He became one of Sweden's first Certified Product Owners in November 2006.
Arne is based in Malmö, Sweden, employed by Softhouse and an active member of the SW Business Improvement team. He holds a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering at Lund University, Sweden.
